PIRATE’S BIGHT on NORMAN ISLAND – The British Virgin Islands are steeped in pirate history. Many famous names including Black Beard, Sir Francis Drake and Jack Hawkins use these islands as a staging ground for attacks on vessels laden with Treasure (booty) headed back to Europe. As a result legendary pirate dens were established and one of the most notable was The Bight on Norman Island. Robert Louis Stevenson brought notoriety to this Island and its anchorages with his novel Treasure Island where the story of Long John Silver is reputedly set.
